Quo vadis, Postgres in the cloud? Kubernetes or DBaaS?
Moving to the cloud is hard, and moving databases to the cloud is even harder. Public cloud or private cloud? IaaS or PaaS? Kubernetes for the application, or for the database and the application? This talk will juxtapose EDB Cloud Native Postgres, a self-managed Kubernetes and container based database solution, and EDB Cloud, a fully managed database service,  that is built on EDB Cloud Native Postgres. The talk will review cloud architecture considerations and provide guidance for decision makers.

Where the DBMS Market is Going
There’s no doubt that cloud will be important. Ignore it at your peril.  SaaS will be big and DBaaS is going to be huge. In his talk at Postgres Build 2021, Mike Stonebraker will cover key considerations and provide guidance about the best way forward when it comes to cloud. Key points include moving decision support applications first and their migration to machine learning.  Other applications will follow, generating a requirement for multi-tenancy.  In addition, OSs should adapt to database services,  There will be a small number of dominant cloud vendors, who will attempt to get you on board with proprietary options — be ready to make the best decision for your organization.
