Postgres, still going strong?
Where did Postgres come from, how did it evolve into becoming the world’s leading data management system and where will it go after tomorrow?
Join me in an exploration of the vital elements that lead to this (r)evolution. Big multinational software vendors lose out to a disorganized bunch of geeks? Or is there something more fundamentally happening?

We will shine a light on some key learnings to see if we can “crack the code of Postgres”, something we do not have to do for the server itself, as that is fully Open Source!

Slow things down to make them go faster
It's easy to get misled into overconfidence based on the performance of powerful servers, given today's monster core counts and RAM sizes. However, the reality of high concurrency usage is often disappointing, with less throughput than one would expect. PostgreSQL is very particular about how it likes to deal with high concurrency, so let's look at potential pitfalls when you throw a lot of work at your database.

Embarking on a Successful Database Migration Journey to PostgreSQL
More and more organizations are choosing to migrate their database applications off legacy database technology onto databases such as Postgres. Before undertaking a database migration journey, it is important to understand what is involved in a database migration. This talk explores the topic of database migrations, particularly migrations to Postgres, with the goal of highlighting the factors to consider, the steps to take, the types of tools to use, and the resources that are required that will increase the chances of a successful migration.

Solving PostgreSQL wicked problems
PostgreSQL is a very popular and feature-rich DBMS. At the same time, PostgreSQL has a set of annoying wicked problems, which haven't been resolved in decades. Miraculously, with just a small patch to PostgreSQL core extending this API, it appears possible to solve wicked PostgreSQL problems in a new engine made within an extension.

When less is more -- Scaling Postgres without breaking the bank
When an application scales up, the underlying database often needs to be tweaked to keep up with the incoming demand. Intuitively sysadmins and database admins scale up the hardware and tune configuration parameters to meet higher demand. Unfortunately, it's not always the case that more hardware and resources will lead to better performance. In this talk, we'll cover why scaling up isn't just about putting in more money and proportionally allocating more resources.
